Daily Blog - Friday May 29th

Back on Tuesday I gave the % of tackles returning for everyone of the 120 FBS teams. This is part of the new experience chart that I put in this years magazine. Today I want to look at the % of yards returning for the offenses. I took all of the yards each QB threw for as well as all of the individual rushing yards and receiving yards for each team. I then took all of the returning yards from '08 for the percentage.

At the top of the chart is UCF. They lost one skill player from the offense who played in two games and did not have any yards. Every player who ran, passed or caught the ball last year is back and they are the only team in the NCAA with 100% of their 2008 yards returning. BCS schools at the top of the list include: Kansas (97%), Georgia Tech (95.3%), Illinois (95.3%) and Notre Dame (95.3%).

There are two teams that lost OVER 80% of their yards gained from last year. Rice which loses QB Chase Clement (4119 pass, 693 rush), Jarrett Dillard (1310 rec), James Casey (1391 rec, 241 rush) and their top rusher CJ Ugokwe (809 rush). They have just 16.5% of last years yards returning. The other team that was hardest hit was Northwestern who loses QB CJ Bacher, RB Tyrell Sutton and their top 4 receivers from 2008 and have just 17.9% of their offensive yards back. Missouri checks in at just 25.2% with the losses of QB Chase Daniel, WR's Jeremy Maclin and Tommy Saunders and TE Chase Coffman. They do have a 1000 yard rusher returning in Derrick Washington and still rank that low!

Of the teams I think will be ranked in the top 4 at the start of the year, Texas has the highest % returning at 79.8% which edges out Oklahoma by .001 percent (79.7%). Florida is at the same level at 75.8% and USC is down at #85 with 55.1%.

97 DAYS until the first college Football game of 2009!

Here is the complete list of this years % of yards returning.
