As of today here are my picks for the 2011-12 Bowl Confidence Contest. Naturally the team highlighted in green is my pick to win the game and the pts column represents how confident I am with that pick. I may or may not make a change tomorrow before the 2:00 PM ET deadline but will post the new picks (if there are some) in tomorrow's blog. Enjoy and make sure you check out the information below on how to sign up for this year's contest!

One Picksheet Per Person!

All picks must be completed by Saturday Dec 17th at 2:00 PM EST

The last couple of years I have had a Bowl Confidence Contest that generated a lot of interest on our site and we had hundreds and hundreds of entries. Two years ago we had the biggest entry pool yet with nearly 1200 entries and it was a huge success with more than double the amount of entries compared to ‘08! Last year we outdid ourselves again with an incredible 2922 entries! This year we will again have a “Bowl Confidence Contest” and I hope there will be many more participants!

You can enter the contest by simply clicking here. To enter, just go to the sign up page and log in your information. Then after that go to your picksheet page and simply pick who you think will win each of the 35 bowl games. You then award your confidence points to each. The team you think will definitely win their game would get 35 points and the team who you picked at the bottom which was very tough for you to call would get 1 point.

For each team that wins their bowl game that you picked correctly, you get the confidence points you assigned to them. Those with the highest points are the winners. The first bowl game takes place on December 17th at 2:00 PM EST and Good Luck!!

One Bowl Entry Per Person Please!! For more contest rules click here and if you have any questions or concerns please email brandon@philsteele.com.

Sam Houston St is 13-0 the only undefeated FCS team, the Southland Champion and the #1 seed. Two weeks ago Sam Houston St trailed Stony Brook 10-3 at half and the teams were tied 3 times in the 2H before the Bearkats scored the game winning TD with 1:01 left for a 34-27 win. That was SHSU’s only FCS game that they did not win by 14+ pts with only their 48-45 win over FBS New Mexico being closer. That includes a 31-10 win over Central Arkansas with a 415-271 yd edge. Last week they beat Big Sky member, Montana St 49-13 with a 501-349 yd edge (+1TO), leading 21-6 at half and 42-3 after 3Q (1 KR TD). Montana is 11-2, The Big Sky Champion and the #4 seed. They started the season 2-2 losing to Tennessee 42-16 but after losing to Sacramento St 42-28 won their 9 straight and are 11-2. Two weeks ago Montana on the other hand had a 415-290 yd edge and after leading 31-0 at half over Southland conference member Central Arkansas cruised to a 41-14 win. Last week Montana had a 463-257 yd edge over Northern Iowa and were +3 TO’s winning 48-10 (28-10 at half). They have defeated their last 4 FCS opponents by a combined 166-40. Including a 36-10 win over Montana St, Montana won 36-10 with a 473-250 yd edge (+1 TO). This is the way the playoffs are supposed to work with the #1 seed taking on the #4 seed in this side of the bracket. This will be Montana’s first road game since they ended the regular season at rival Montana St. However, while Montana played their home games in front of and avg 24,878 (#3 FCS). Sam Houston St despite a undefeated season has averaged just 7,547 (#60 FCS) but did have 9,077 last week. Both teams outperformed the computers predictions last week. Look for a High scoring affair, that should be a great game to watch.
