Daily Blog • November 15th

Three years ago I started a weekly blog that included my surprise fantasy picks for each week of the college football season. Each week I picked the players that were flying under the radar and I am pleased that I finished my first year at a very successful 83-29-7 (74%). In 2010 I had another successful year with a winning week every week and an overall 103-45-17 (70%) record. Last year I went 82-44-11 (65%). So far this year I am 92-32-8 74%.

This year I will again be giving you the surprise fantasy picks each and every week in my Thursday daily blog and here are my picks for Week 10. Keep in mind you will not find players like Denard Robinson, Matt Barkley or Montee Ball in my picks. These are strictly surprise picks of players who are flying under the radar.

My QB's Of The Week:
Chuckie Keeton, Utah St • Cody Fajardo, Nevada
• Brett Hundley, UCLA

QB Chuckie Keeton, Utah St vs Louisiana Tech – Chuckie Keeton makes our fantasy list this week and deservedly so as over the past 2 weeks he has thrown for an average of 328 yds while tossing 7 td passes (23-7 ratio on season). Throw in the 400+ rushing yards and an additional 4 td’s and you have a solid dual threat choice here in the showdown for the WAC Title against La Tech.

QB Cody Fajardo, Nevada vs New Mexico – Despite averaging 35 ppg over the L/3 games the Wolf Pack have dropped each of those previously mentioned matchups. Cody Fajardo has been a big part in commanding the Pistol offense and a favorable matchup against New Mexico provides him with a chance to surpass the 300 total yard mark for a 6th time this year.

QB Brett Hundley, UCLA vs USC – How have the Trojans defended teams with dual threat QB’s so far this season? How about allowing 581 total yards to Arizona and 737 to Oregon! The Bruins are looking to end a 5-game series losing streak here and this could be their best opportunity as they now have a consistent offense to go head to head with USC. On the season Brett Hundley is averaging 274 ypg passing with a 24-9 ratio while also adding in 6 rushing trips to the endzone. Look for him to play a big role here if the Bruins are to pull out the win in the Rose Bowl.

My RB's Of The Week:
Zurlon Tipton, Central Michigan • Bishop Sankey, Washington
• Vintavious Cooper, East Carolina

RB Zurlon Tipton, Central Michigan vs Miami, Oh – We’re kicking ourselves for not using Zurlon Tipton earlier as he’s been a pleasant surprise for the CMU offense surpassing the 100 yard rushing mark in each of the L/4 games including a 243 yard, 3 td performance against Akron at the end of October. Next on the docket for Tipton and Company is a matchup with a Miami defense that is allowing 252 rushing yards a game this year. We expect Tipton to reach that 100-yard plateau here for a 5th consecutive game.

RB Bishop Sankey, Washington vs Colorado – Bishop Sankey has been a td machine for the Huskies this season with 13 on the year including 2 in each of their last 3 games. What has also been impressive is his consistency in rushing yards as he has surpassed the 100 yard barrier in 5 of the L/8 while also providing some receptions out of the backfield with 23 on the year. Last week the Buffaloes allowed Arizona RB Ka’Deem Carey to rush for an incredible 366 yards and score 5 td’s and while Sankey won’t match those numbers, he will get his fair share.

RB Vintavious Cooper, East Carolina vs Tulane – After rushing for a combined 433 yards and 4 td’s the past 3 weeks, Vintavious Cooper makes our list here as the Pirates now venture to New Orleans against a Tulane squad that is allowing 216 ypg on the ground at home this year. Cooper should continue to rack up the rushing yards here.

My WR's Of The Week:
Jarvis Landry, LSU • Josh Stewart, Oklahoma St
• Jordan Matthews, Vanderbilt

WR Jarvis Landry, LSU vs Mississippi – With the play of QB Zach Mettenberger continuing to improve, Jarvis Landry has also seen his targets increase over the past 2 weeks with 17 catches, 185 yards and 2 td’s. A matchup with an Ole Miss pass defense that allowed 384 yards in the air in their last road trip gives us a good feeling about Landry here.

WR Josh Stewart, Oklahoma St vs Texas Tech – Texas Tech has been gashed on the defensive side of the ball in their last 4 games allowing an avg of 447 ypg. They now journey off to Stillwater to matchup against WR Josh Stewart, who is fresh off of a 13 catch, 172 yd performance a week ago against WV. We like his chances to again achieve 100 yards receiving as he is a crucial part to the success of the OSU passing offense.

WR Jordan Matthews, Vanderbilt vs Tennessee – Very few Vanderbilt players have had the success that Jordan Matthews has had in the past year and a half. Following LW’s 153 yard performance against Ole Miss and health questions regarding the Commodore running game, Matthews gets the nod here against a Volunteer squad that hasn’t been able to stop anyone on defense all season long (allowing 479 ypg).

My Defenses Of The Week:
Boise St • UCLA • Texas Tech

Boise St Defense vs Colorado St  – The Broncos return to this list for a 2nd consecutive week after holding yet another opponent under 15 ppg (7th time) and 275 ypg (6th time). The CSU offense has been inconsistent to say the least in 2012 as they have found themselves finishing with less than 300 total yards in 4 contests this year.

Michigan Defense vs Iowa  – Prior to allowing 431 yards in their overtime matchup last week with Northwestern, the Michigan defense had allowed less than 330 yards in each of their prior 8 games while giving up just 11 ppg in the process. Iowa meanwhile is averaging just 298 ypg of offense in conference play and now have to journey into “The Big House” here.

Buffalo Defense vs UMass – While Buffalo has seen some good and bad weeks on defense so far in 2012, the choosing of the Bulls here is completely relegated to their opponent as the Minutemen have been held under 268 ypg of offense in 7 of their 10 contests this year. Take the Bulls defense here.

CollegeFootballGeek.com’s Sneaky Plays – Week 12
By Kevin Mount, CollegeFootballGeek.com

The regular season is over in many college fantasy leagues and Week 12 marks the 2nd week of the playoffs. For those of you competing in your leagues playoffs, here is a look at some guys who might fill in nicely for owners in need of a potential diamond in the rough.

QUARTERBACKS

Matt McGloin, Penn State QB vs. Indiana: McGloin has far exceeded expectations this season with 19 touchdown passes and only four interceptions. He could be in store for a big effort this week against Indiana. The Hoosiers defense gives up yardage and scores in bunches and may have a difficult time with the Penn State passing attack. Look for McGloin to approach 300 yards passing this week and likely throw in a few scoring passes as well.

Chuckie Keeton, Utah State QB vs. La Tech: “Chuckie” has accounted for 16 total scores in the last four games and has the Utah State offense humming. He could put up gigantic numbers this week against a lousy La Tech pass defense that enters the game allows over 337 passing yards per game. There could be a ton of points scored in this game and Keeton will likely have a hand in a bunch of them. Start Chuckie this week and watch the fantasy points pile up.

Vad Lee, Georgia Tech QB vs. Duke: Lee entered the game last week against North Carolina after the third series and never left. He piled up 281 yards of total offense and three scores against the Heels. He is a bit risky as he may still share some time with Tevin Washington, but his ceiling is high against a Duke run defense that may have no answer for the Georgia Tech rushing attack. Continue to monitor the QB situation at Georgia Tech this week and don’t be afraid to plug in Lee if he is named the starter.

RUNNING BACKS

Lache Seastrunk, Baylor RB vs. Kansas State: The former Oregon transfer that we were so high on going into the season is finally starting to live up to the hype. Seastrunk has 296 total yards and four total touchdowns over the past two games and is fast becoming the Bears playmaker in the backfield. He has a touch match up this week against a stout Kansas State defense, but he could still help fantasy owners out in a pinch. This speed demon could be good for a score and 100 total yards against K-State this weekend.

Theo Riddick, Notre Dame RB vs. Wake Forest: Riddick has quietly been quite productive this season and is averaging over 100 total yards per game over the past four contests. He seems like a good bet to post good yardage total this week against a suspect Wake Forest defense. This Golden Domer looks like a decent option for owners in need of a steady performance this week.

Jordan Parker, Middle Tennessee State RB vs. South Alabama: This freshman ran for 149 yards and a score in his last game two weeks ago against Western Kentucky. He appears to be the main ball carrier with Bennie Cunningham out for the season with a knee injury. He could exploit a potentially overmatched South Alabama run defense for some big gains and a couple of scores. Look for this freshman to have a fantasy friendly performance in Week 12.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Alec Lemon, Syracuse WR vs. Missouri: Lemon has been nothing of the sort over the past four games. He has racked up 483 yards and five scores over that time period and has become the focal point of the Syracuse passing game. This senior could have another nice stat line against Missouri in what could be a high scoring contest. Expect to see Lemon crack the 100-yard barrier for the third week in a row in Week 12.

Rashad Greene, Florida State WR vs. Maryland: Greene has been a big time disappointment to fantasy owners this season, but is showing signs of life in the past two weeks with 196 yards and three scores. A long touchdown or two could be in the cards for Greene this week against a weak Maryland defense. Look for this Seminole to find the end zone for the third straight week against the Terps.

Chad Bumphis, Miss State WR vs. Arkansas: Bumphis lit up LSU for 140 yards last week and has scored a touchdown in two consecutive games. He could find plenty of open space this week against Arkansas. The Razorbacks pass defense is atrocious, ranking 114th in the nation at over 290 yards per game. Look for the Bulldogs passing game to be in high gear this week with Bumphis being very productive.

SNEAKY DEFENSES:

Florida vs. Jacksonville State
South Carolina vs. Wofford
Washington vs. Colorado
Georgia vs. Georgia Southern
Auburn vs. Alabama A&M
Arizona State vs. Washington State
Nebraska vs. Minnesota
Texas A&M vs. Sam Houston State

There you have it everyone, enjoy this week’s action and always remember to have fun playing college fantasy football. Good luck this week!
