2016 Most Experienced Conferences.

Yesterday I did a blog on the toughest conferences and I was trying to figure out why the ACC jumped up from my #5 rated conference in 2015 to my #2 rated conference in the preseason rankings this year. I did something I had not done before but found it very interesting. I turned to page 29 of my College magazine and found a big part of the answer. When I looked at the ACC experience rankings, only one team in the league ranked below #80 on the experience chart with 7 teams in the top 34 experience wise. The other power 5 conferences all had more teams in the lower half of the rankings than in the upper half.

I added up each conferences ratings and divided them by the teams in the league to come up with an average rating per team and as mentioned in yesterdays blog, it was not even close among the power 5 conferences. The ACC had an average rank of 46.2 while the other four power five teams were in the 70's. I took it a step further and did the group of five conferences. Their experience rankings were better by conference than the Power 5. I guess the reason for that is fewer players leave early for the draft so they have more seniors. Interestingly the Sun Belt came in at an average of 73.8 and that is why they come up as my number 10 conference in yesterday's toughest conference chart.

Here are the most experienced Conferences for 2016 based on the average rank of their teams in my Experience Chart

1. ACC 46.2
2. Mountain West 55.1
3. CUSA 56.0
4. MAC 57.25
5. American 67.5
6. SEC 70.7
7. Pac 12 71.3
8. Big 12 73.2
9. Big 10 73.3
10. Sun Belt 73.8
