Daily Blog • January 13th, 2010

The Daily blog will be undergoing some changes in the coming months now that the college football season is complete. Starting this week I will be going to a Monday, Wednesday and weekend blog format until magazine season is over in late spring/early summer. Today's blog will give you the teams with the longest winning/losing streaks overall, home and away in college football. This Saturday and Sunday I will give you my forecasts for the NFL divisional games played that day including my computer's projected box score of the games. Next week will feature my projection of what the Preseason AP top 10 will be for 2010 and that will be coming after January 15th when juniors have to declare or not declare for the NFL Draft.

After their disappointing loss to Purdue in October Ohio St finished their season strong with 6 straight wins including a Rose Bowl victory over Oregon. Western Kentucky had an outstanding streak of 12 straight winning years heading into 2008 and made the IAA playoffs five times this past decade. However in 2007 they made the jump to a transitional FBS team and after a 7-5 season have struggled the last two years including an 0-12 season in 2009. 1st year coach Ron English had a tough year as Eastern Michigan went 0-12. The Eagles have not had a winning season since 1995 and in fact have not won more than 4 games since then. After starting the season 3-0 Colorado St was flying high under 2nd year coach Steve Fairchild but then the Rams lost their final 9 games including 4 games by 7 points or less. Washington St had the second best record among Pac-10 schools from 2001-2004 at 35-14 but have fallen on hard times since going just 3-22 the last two seasons. Coming into 2008 Vanderbilt had 25 consecutive losing season with their last bowl in 1982 however the Commodores had a great season and went 7-6 including a 16-14 win over Boston College in the Music City Bowl. In 2009 Vanderbilt did not get the breaks they did in 08 and went 0-8 in SEC play. Kansas started the season 5-0 and was ranked as high as #16 in the AP poll. The Jayhawks however lost their final 7 games and had some off field problems as well that led to the dismissal of HC Mangino.
