Last year I started a weekly blog that included my surprise fantasy picks for each week of the college football season. Each week I picked the players that were flying under the radar and this year I have continued my weekly surprise fantasy picks. Last week I finished with an incredible 11-1 record including five Big Winners! How about Tennessee QB Tyler Bray who has given me two straight winners avg 324 pass ypg (55%) with an 8-0 ratio in his first two starts! Also last week Tulane RB Orleans Darkwa not only ran for 113 yds but also threw 2 TD passes! Overall on the season I am 83-33-17 (72%). To check out last week's picks click here. QUARTERBACKS:
My QB’s of the week are: Tyler Bray, Tennessee, GJ Kinne, Tulsa and Ryan Aplin, Arkansas St

Tyler Bray, Tennessee-If you have been reading this blog the last couple of weeks you will know that I am no “Johnny Come Lately” to the Bray Bandwagon with him delivering two big wins for me here the last couple of weeks avg 324 pass ypg (55%) with an 8-0 ratio in his first two starts! This week he takes on a Vanderbilt defense that has allowed at least 480 ttl yds in its last 5 gms and is just #105 in my pass defense ranking giving up 240 ypg (65%) with a 16-7 ratio. I’ll call for Bray to have another big day as the Vols win their 3rd straight gm.

GJ Kinne, Tulsa-Kinne has appeared many times in this blog and has delivered me three wins this season. He has been one of the major reasons for Tulsa’s current 4 game winning streak and is avg 258 ypg (60%) with a 22-9 ratio this season. He also leads the Golden Hurricane in rushing with 456 (4.1) and 5 TD’s. Last week he beat Houston with his legs running for 190 yds (6.1) while adding 154 pass yds!  This week he takes on a UTEP defense that has given up 500+ yds to three-high powered offenses this year (Houston, UAB and Arkansas) and my computer calls for 291 yds rushing and 238 yds passing for Tulsa with Kinne easily topping the 300 ttl yd mark in this one!

Ryan Aplin, Arkansas St-Aplin has been solid for the Red Wolves this season avg 263 pass ypg (61%) with an 18-10 ratio. This week he takes on a Navy defense that has allowed 300+ yds passing the last 3 weeks and 250+ the L/6. The Midshipmen rank just #106 in my pass defense rankings and my computer calls for Aplin to pass for 273 yds and I’ll call for him to get close to 300 pass yds in this one as Arkansas St keeps it close.

RUNNING BACKS:

My RB’s of the week are: Montel Harris, Boston College, Marc Tyler, USC and Rodney Stewart, Colorado

Montel Harris, Boston College-With the shuffling of QBs this season, Harris has been the mainstay for the Eagles offense with 1,128 rush yds (4.6) and 7 TD. He is coming off 5 str 100+ yd games and this week takes on a Virginia defense that is giving up 202 rush ypg (5.1). The Eagles know Harris is their “ticket” to getting to bowl eligibility for a 12th str season and I expect him to get 100+ yds in this one.

Marc Tyler, USC-Tyler had a career-high last week with 161 rush yds (5.2) and a TD in the win over Arizona and leads the Trojans with 795 rush yds (5.9) and 9 TD’s this season. This week he faces an Oregon St defense that arguably had one of the worst performances by a rush defense this year last week as they allowed 221 yds to a pass-happy Wash St team. One of Oregon St’s key DL will be out this week and I’ll call for Tyler to top the 100-yd mark again this week as he gets closer to 1,000 yds this year.

Rodney Stewart, Colorado-Last week I took Stewart in this blog and he delivered with 123 rush yds and topped the 1,000 yd mark on the year. This week he faces a Kansas St run defense that is allowing 200 rush ypg (5.2). My computer calls for 187 rush yds for Colorado and I think Stewart tops the 100-yd mark for the 3rd str game.

WIDE RECEIVERS:

My WR’s of the week are: Armon Binns, Cincinnati, Roy Roundtree, Michigan and Dwayne Frampton, Arkansas St

Armon Binns, Cincinnati-Binns leads the Bearcats with 57 rec (14.5) and 9 TD’s and was the lone bright spot last week with 10 rec (11.5) in the loss to West Virginia. This week takes on my #91 pass defense in Rutgers which is giving up 243 pass ypg. The Bearcats are in a desperate mode having to win their final 3 games to earn a bowl bid and my computer calls for 310 pass yds for the Bearcats. I think Binns could top the 100-yd mark in this one.

Roy Roundtree, Michigan-Roundtree leads the Wolverines with 51 rec (14.3) and 5 TD’s which is 200 yds and 20 more rec than the #2 rec. This week my computer calls for 255 pass yds for the Wolverines as they will try and be more balanced this week going up against a solid Wisconsin run defense. I’ll call for Roundtree to grab 6 or 7 passes in this one and add a TD as there should be a lot of offensive fireworks in Ann Arbor this weekend.

Dwayne Frampton, Arkansas St-Frampton leads the Red Wolves with 62 rec (10.8) and 6 TD’s which is 30 more rec than the #2 rec. This week he takes on a Navy defense that has allowed 300+ pass yds the past 3 weeks and I’ll call for him to easily get 6 or 7 rec and close in on the 100-yd mark as Arkansas St will be very competitive.

DEFENSES:

My Top Defenses of the Week: Clemson, Michigan St and Tennessee

Clemson vs Wake Forest-The Tigers have been pretty solid defensively TY allowing 336 ttl ypg. Their rush defense has held 4 of its L/6 including their L/2 opponents to under 100 yds rushing. This week they take on a Wake Forest offense that is really struggling and after posting 500+ yds in their first two games this year have been held to under 300 yds in 6 of its L/8 gms. The L/3 weeks they have been held to an avg of 210 ypg and this week my computer calls for just 9 pts and 264 total yds for the Demon Deacons as the Tigers clinch bowl eligibility.

Michigan St vs Purdue-This will be an emotional Senior Day for the Spartans as they have had their best season in years and it will be the final home game for All-American LB Greg Jones. Led by Jones, the Spartans have been solid allowing just 19 ppg and 321 ypg this year. This week coming off a bye they get a Purdue team that has been hit hard by injuries and last against the worst defense in the league (Michigan) were only able to muster 256 yds and 9 pts (7 came from a 94 yd IR TD). This week my computer calls for just 7 pts and 203 yds for the Boilers as the Spartans get to DD wins for the first time since 1999.

Tennessee vs Vanderbilt-The Vols defense is allowing 413 ttl ypg this year vs FBS opponents but they have improved the last couple of weeks allowing 14 ppg and 302 ttl ypg in their B2B blowouts over Memphis and Mississippi. This week they get a struggling Vanderbilt offense that is avg 280 ttl ypg this year and has been held to under 250 yds in 4 of their L/5 gms. This week my computer calls for just 17 pts and 283 yds for the Commodores and if the Vols defense can hold them to that yardage total it will be their best performance this season against FBS teams.

Upset of the Week: 2 str upsets L/2 weeks with Navy over East Carolina and Colorado over Iowa St!

Colorado over Kansas St

Colorado was my upset pick of the week last week and they delivered in interim HC Cabral’s debut by dominating the LOS with 8 sks and held Iowa St to -6 yds rushing. Their QB Hawkins is avg 262 ypg (54%) with a 9-2 ratio since coming off the bench against Texas Tech. This week in their final home game they get a Kansas St run defense that is allowing 200 rush ypg (5.2). That does not bode well going up against CU RB Stewart who has 1,026 rush yds (4.4) and 8 TD’s already this season. I’ll call for the Buffs to get another emotional win in their final home game and stay in contention for a bowl.

The twelfth week of the college football season is already here and there may be some owners looking for some under the radar fantasy options. In many leagues this week is the first week of the playoffs, so it is even more important to find that “gem” to use in your lineup. Check out who we think could fill in nicely for fantasy teams in Week 12.

Quarterbacks

Tyler Bray QB Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt:
This freshman has stepped in and had two outstanding outings in the past two weeks. He has thrown for 324 yards per game and 8 touchdown passes over that time period. The Vols have been throwing the ball often with Bray under center and this week he gets to feast on the Commodores and their 95th ranked pass defense. Expect another solid outing from this youngster this week

Collin Klein QB Kansas State vs. Colorado:
Klein is splitting time with Carson Coffman as the K-State quarterback, but has still posted big rushing numbers over the past two weeks. He has rushed for 268 yards and 2 scores over the past two games and could find some nice success again this week against Colorado. The Buffs ranks 81st in total defense and give up quite a few big plays. Klein won’t throw much, but he could run fantasy owners to a win this week.

Tevin Washington QB Georgia Tech vs. Duke:
Washington was plugged into the Tech option game when Josh Nesbitt went down with an injury and seems to be running the offense just fine. He threw for 101 yards and a score and ran for another 122 in his first start last week against Miami. He could do some real damage this week with 96th ranked Duke rush defense coming to town. Washington could be a huge find for owners in a pinch this week.

Jake Heaps QB BYU vs. New Mexico:
Heaps is starting to show why he was such a highly prized recruit coming into this season. The freshman has thrown for 268 yards per game and 6 scores over the last two games. He could continue his hot streak this week against a New Mexico defense that has struggled to stop the pass this season. Expect another solid effort this week and a glimpse of what is to come over the next couple of seasons in Provo.

Running Backs

Marc Tyler RB USC vs. Oregon State:  
Tyler has been on a tear lately and posted a career high 160 yards rushing last week against Arizona. He seems to have taken control of the Trojans backfield and could hang up another big game against Oregon State this week. The Beavers are a mess defensively and rank 80th in the country against the run. The Trojans and Tyler could find a ton of room to work in Corvallis on Saturday.

Eddie Lacy RB Alabama vs. Georgia State:  
With a potential blowout game and Trent Richardson likely missing this week due to injury, Lacy could find himself getting a bunch of carries in mop up duty. This game could be very ugly and Lacy could see time early and often in this contest. He is risky, but could easily top 100 yards and throw in a score or two against a severely over matched Georgia State football team.

Jamie Harper RB Clemson vs. Wake Forest:
Harper filled in nicely last week for Andre Ellington with 197 total yards and 1 score against Florida State. The sky could be the limit this week against a pathetic Demon Deacons rush defense that gives up almost 200 yards per game and has allowed 23 rushing touchdowns on the season. Fantasy owners could likely see huge numbers from Harper this week.

Alexander Teich RB Navy vs. Arkansas State:  
Teich is averaging 111 yards and a score per game over his last five games. He can be inconsistent at times, but could prove very valuable this week against Arkansas State. The Red Wolves rank 111th in the nation against the run giving up 206 yards per game, which could prove very ugly against the powerful running game of the Midshipmen.

Wide Receivers & Tight Ends

Jeremy Deering WR Rutgers vs. Cincinnati:
Another season and another freshman wide out running the Wild Knight formation for Rutgers. Last season it was Mohamed Sanu, this fall it is Jeremy Deering. With Sanu dinged, Deering has emerged as the main weapon for the Scarlet Knights. He ran the Wild Knight to the tune of 166 yards and a score last week against Syracuse. He holds good value as long as he continues to see carries for the Knights.

Justin Hunter WR Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt:
This true freshman has been coming on strong with 266 yards and 4 scores in the last three games that he played in. He is explosive and a real deep threat for QB Tyler Bray. He could be on the receiving end of a couple of deep throws this week against a very shaky Commodores secondary. We are betting he finds the end zone once again this week.

Paul Richardson WR Colorado vs. Kansas State:
Richardson has been hot lately with 262 yards and 2 scores in his last two contests. This freshman could have another fine day against a questionable Wildcats pass defense. We have a feeling this game could be a high scoring affair and Richardson might be a big part of the fun. A third straight 100-yard game could easily be in Richardson’s future.

Markus Wheaton WR Oregon State vs. USC:
Wheaton has become the top target in the Oregon State passing game since the season ending knee injury to James Rodgers in Week 6. He is averaging 16.80 fantasy points per game over the past five outings. While the Beavers offense has struggled mightily recently, Wheaton continues to post excellent numbers and could do so again this week against the Trojans.

Johdrick Morris TE Southern Miss vs. Houston:
Morris is a WR who has moved to the TE position and has been very productive. If he is eligible to play at the TE position in your league, go ahead and throw him in your lineup. He has huge upside and could be a monster in the playoffs at the weak TE position.


Sneaky Play Defenses

Oklahoma State vs. Kansas
Penn State vs. Indiana
Clemson vs. Wake Forest
Texas Tech vs. Weber State
Nevada vs. New Mexico State
Missouri vs. Iowa State
Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt
