Every year we list the average home attendance for all 120 teams in the magazine and where they rank in the NCAA. This year we have decided to also include the average away attendance giving an indication of which teams were playing in front of the biggest crowds and most hostile road environments.

Naturally, Michigan led the country again in home attendance while their Big 10 rivals Ohio St and Penn St came in #2 and #3 respectively. With recent additions to their home stadiums Alabama and Texas round out the top 5 knocking Tennessee out for the first time in several years.

In avergage away attendance the SEC dominated with 7 of the top 8 teams led by Ole Miss with an average of 80,158. Michigan thanks to road trips at Notre Dame, Penn St and Ohio St was the only non-SEC school.

Another interesting factor is the difference between home and away attendance. Naturally the teams with the biggest stadiums should have the biggest differences and that was the case here with Penn St, Ohio St and Michigan leading the way. Some interesting notes is that BYU appears in the Top 10 in difference largely becuase their home stadium is so much larger than any other MWC team (exception is San Diego St but their avg attendance has traditionally been poor at Qualcomm). Also interesting is that only 42 teams avg more fans at home than on the road as the number should be closer to 60 but when analyzing it further the disparity between a 100,000 seat Big 10 stadium and a 25,000 seat MAC stadium is great enough that just one road game in that instance would sway the numbers significantly.
