Here are some of the top individual performances from this past bowl season. Tomorrow I will break down the top team performances.
Rushing Leaders (Top 10)
Player, School | Att | Yds | YPC | Long | TD |
Ronnie Hillman, San Diego St | 28 | 228 | 8.1 | 37 | 3 |
Marcus Coker, Iowa | 33 | 219 | 6.6 | 62 | 2 |
Da'Rel Scott, Maryland | 13 | 200 | 15.4 | 91 | 2 |
Delone Carter, Syracuse | 27 | 198 | 7.3 | 60 | 2 |
Adonis Thomas, Toledo | 24 | 193 | 8 | 87 | 2 |
Mikel LeShoure, Illinois | 29 | 184 | 6.3 | 24 | 3 |
Chris Polk, Washington | 34 | 177 | 5.2 | 24 | 1 |
Shaun Draughn, North Carolina | 23 | 160 | 7 | 58 | 1 |
Doug Martin, Boise St | 17 | 147 | 8.6 | 84 | 1 |
Chris Thompson, Florida St | 25 | 147 | 5.9 | 27 | 1 |
First thing that jumped out at me was the fact that the among the Top 10 rushers, their respective teams went 9-1 in their bowl games with Adonis Thomas from Toledo being the only player to see his team lose their bowl (albeit on a last play FG too).
Ronnie Hillman, San Diego St is just a frosh but had an unbelievable game for the Aztecs in their 35-14 win over Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl. As remarkable as Hillman's performance was Marcus Coker from Iowa who was filling in for Adam Robinson had a huge performance and keyed Iowa's win over Missouri in the Insight Bowl. Da'Rel Scott who had a great career at Maryland finished it off in style with 200 yds on just 13 carries and had a 91-yd run in Maryland's demolition of East Carolina in the Military Bowl.
Passing Leaders (Top 10)
Player, School | Comp | Att | % | Yds | Ypa | TD | INT |
Blaine Gabbert, Missouri | 41 | 57 | 71.9 | 434 | 7.6 | 1 | 2 |
Landry Jones, Oklahoma | 34 | 49 | 69.4 | 429 | 8.8 | 3 | 1 |
Bryant Moniz, Hawaii | 24 | 47 | 51.1 | 411 | 8.7 | 3 | 4 |
Corey Robinson, Troy | 32 | 42 | 76.2 | 387 | 9.2 | 4 | 0 |
Taylor Potts, Texas Tech | 43 | 56 | 76.8 | 369 | 6.6 | 4 | 1 |
Darron Thomas, Oregon | 27 | 40 | 67.5 | 363 | 9.1 | 2 | 2 |
GJ Kinne, Tulsa | 17 | 31 | 54.8 | 343 | 11.1 | 3 | 0 |
Kellen Moore, Boise St | 28 | 38 | 73.7 | 339 | 8.9 | 2 | 1 |
Tyler Bray, Tennessee | 27 | 45 | 60 | 312 | 6.9 | 4 | 3 |
Robert Griffin, Baylor | 30 | 41 | 73.2 | 306 | 9.9 | 1 | 0 |
The top passers did not have the same success win wise as the top rushers as their teams went a respective 5-5. They were led by Blaine Gabbert, Missouri who threw for 434 yds but he will probably remember his performance more for the costly interceptions he threw late in the game that sealed the Tigers fate. Landry Jones capped off a great Soph season with an impressive Fiesta Bowl performance with 429 yds and a 3-1 ratio that keyed the Sooners rout of UConn. Bryant Moniz led the nation in passing yds this year but had a disappointing bowl game despite the yardage as he threw 4 int's in the loss to Tulsa.
