Today’s blog continues my in-depth look at my New and Improved Experience Chart. For 7 years, I had listed an experience chart, which broke down the number of seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshmen each team had in the two deep and rated the teams experience level with a formula I devised. In 2009, I made the experience chart FIVE TIMES better.
Today I will look at the % of yards returning. I took all of the yards each QB threw for as well as all of the individual rushing yards and receiving yards for each team. I then took all of the returning yards from 2012 for the percentage.
At the top of the chart is Buffalo. They return 9 starters from last year’s offense (only lost 2 OL) including 11 of their top 12 rushers and top 10 receivers. The Bulls only lose FB Rashad Jean, who had 73 yards rushing. They are followed closely by Indiana, who returns 10 starters on offense (only lost 1 OL) and returns all 3 of their QB’s, their top 7 rushers and their top 7 receivers. Other schools at the top of the list include: Washington (97.4%), Boston College (96.4%) and Ohio St (95.3%).
At the bottom of the list are two teams that lost OVER 75% of their yards gained from last year. West Virginia loses record-setting QB Geno Smith who threw for 4,205 yards last year along with Tavon Austin and Shawne Alston who combined for 1,029 rush yards and their Top 3 WR’s in Stedman Bailey, Tavon Austin and JD Woods who combined for an incredible 3,548 yards last year! Pittsburgh loses QB Tino Sunseri (3,288 yds pass) RB’s Ray Graham (1,042 yds rush) and Rushel Shell (641 yards) along with 3 of their top 4 WR’s who combined for 1,552 yds last year!
I will be back tomorrow to take a look at another factor in my experience chart (% of tackles returning).
