My QB's of the Week
Matt Johnson, Bowling Green • Sean Schroeder, Hawaii • Clint Chelf, Oklahoma St
QB Matt Johnson (Bowling Green) – When choosing this week’s fantasy QB’s Matt Johnson caught our eye almost immediately as while he is almost automatic when it comes to reaching 200+ yds passing, his matchup is what has us salivating as Eastern Michigan’s secondary is getting thrashed over the past 4 games allowing 368 ypg in the air. We expect more of the same in this meeting as BG continues to build up their resume on their way to next week’s showdown against Buffalo.
QB Sean Schroeder (Hawaii) – With the likes of Timmy Chang, Colt Brennan and Bryant Moniz being featured on many fantasy teams in years past, the Hawaii QB position has taken some time off over the past few seasons as they have transitioned away from the run-and-shoot to more of a pro-style scheme. With that being said, we like the ability of Sean Schroeder to deliver against Wyoming as he has thrown for at least 2 td’s in 6 of the L/7 contests, especially with the Cowboys allowing 500+ yards in each of their L/4 contests.
QB Clint Chelf (Oklahoma St) – After hitting nearly 73% of his passes and recording 4 total td’s a week ago against Texas, Clint Chelf will have to post similar results for their upcoming matchup against high-scoring Baylor. Chelf has proven to be a decent dual-threat signal caller with 3 games of 85+ rushing yards to go with his 11-5 pass ratio. Big time shootout expected in this one so grab Chelf if he’s available in your league right now!
My RB's of the Week
James Sims, Kansas • Kevin Parks, Virginia • Josh Quezada, Fresno St
RB James Sims (Kansas) – Led by his 211 yards rushing and 3 td’s the Jayhawks were able to pull the upset last weekend against WVU. Sims is just 99 yds away from his career-high in rushing that he accomplished LY (1,013) and we expect him to achieve that mark here against an Iowa St squad that has been gutted on the defensive side of the ball to the tune of 471 ypg (229 ypg rush).
RB Kevin Parks (Virginia) – With 7 straight losses in the books the Cavaliers may look to get back to the basics this weekend against a Miami squad that is also playing thru a tough losing skid (3 straight defeats). The Hurricanes allowed 358 yards on the ground last week to Duke while Kevin Parks has surpassed the 100 yard rushing mark 4 times this season while punching in 10 td’s on the ground. We expect similar success for Parks this weekend.
RB Josh Quezada (Fresno St) – While Fresno St’s offense generally uses a pass first approach, they do offer some opportunities to their RB’s to make an impact as well. Josh Quezada has risen to the occasion over the L2G with B2B 100+ yd rushing performances while pulling in a combined 9 passes (68 yds) in that span. Up next for BCS-Buster FSU? How about a matchup with a New Mexico defense that is being gashed for 494 ypg on the year (allowing 263 ypg rush). Expect FSU to get up early with the pass and ride Quezada for a good portion of their offense in the 2H.
My WR's of the Week
Dorial Green-Beckham, Missouri • Michael Bennett, Georgia • Austin Franklin, New Mexico St
WR Dorial Green-Beckham (Missouri) – Mizzou QB James Franklin appears to be back this weekend which is good news for the Tigers’ most highly touted, DGB, who could possibly double his 2012 receiving output with a pair of strong outings to end the regular season. Up first is a meeting with Ole Miss who allowed 326 yds in the air to Troy in their previous game. Look for Green-Beckham to post his 2nd straight 100 yard game and his 3rd of the season.
WR Michael Bennett (Georgia) – Consistency has been the strong suit of Michael Bennett over the past 3 games as while he hasn’t posted gaudy numbers that some of your major college fantasy WR’s do, he will get his opportunities with one of the best SEC QB’s of all-time passing him the ball in Aaron Murray. Bennett has 5+ catches in each of those previously mentioned L/3 and should match up well this weekend against a Kentucky defense that is allowing 452 ypg in conference play.
WR Austin Franklin (New Mexico St) – Despite missing each of the first 4 games of the season Austin Franklin is still leading the Aggies in receptions, receiving yards and receiving td’s which include 3 straight games of double digit catches and 100+ receiving yards. The Aggies haven’t had many opportunities for success in their 1st year as an independent but this week’s matchup vs FAU is as good as any this season and we expect NMSt to take to the air early and often to stay competitive throughout.
My D's of the Week
Marshall • North Texas • Tulane
Marshall Defense – While Marshall is more known for their high-octane offense, the defensive unit has provided some excellent results as well holding 5 opponents to 14 or less points on the season. This week’s opponent FIU hasn’t seen much go right on offense as they are averaging just 10 ppg and 223 ypg on the season being held to 13 or fewer points in 8 of their 10 contests. Marshall will prove once again that they’re not just an offensive juggernaut.
North Texas Defense – A big reason for NT’s recent stretch of wins has been the splendid play from its defense as they have surrendered just 11 ppg and 279 ypg during their 5 game winning streak. This week’s opponent UTSA barely escaped 2 weeks ago against Tulane with a 10-7 victory. NT appears to be a team on a mission right now and we have no question that the defense will deliver another solid outing here.
Tulane Defense – Not very often do we feature CUSA defenses in this blog but 3 in one week?? Tulane returns from a bye playing extremely well on the defensive side of the ball allowing just 19 ppg over their past 3 contests. UTEP comes to the Superdome this week against the Green Wave and we expect more success from the home team as the Miners have struggled away from the Sun Bowl recently being outscored 143-21 over their L/3 road trips avg just 296 ypg.
CollegeFootballGeek.com’s Sneaky Plays – Week 13
By Kevin Mount, CollegeFootballGeek.com
A very interesting Week Twelve is in the books and it is now time to look ahead to the seventh week of the college football season and the “sneaky” plays it has in store for fantasy owners. Here is a look at some guys who might fill in nicely for owners in need of a potential diamond in the rough.
QUARTERBACKS
QB Marquise Williams, North Carolina (vs. Old Dominion):
Williams is a dual-threat quarterback who is filling in for the injured Bryn Renner. He could post a huge stat line this week against a potentially overmatched Monarchs defense. The UNC offense could really click this week with Williams leading the way. He could be a great plug in for owners in need at the QB position during the playoffs. Look for Williams to account for plenty of yards and a few scores this week against ODU.
QB Clint Chelf, Oklahoma State (vs. Baylor):
Chelf has taken control of the Oklahoma State offense and has accounted for 11 total touchdowns over the past three games. Chelf will need to put up big numbers for the Cowboys to keep pace with the high-powered Baylor offense. This could be a high scoring contest with Chelf having a hand in plenty of points and yards. Chelf looks to be a very nice option this week, especially in BCS only leagues. Expect Chelf to drop 300 total yards and a few scores on Saturday night.
RUNNING BACKS
RB Myles Jack, UCLA (vs. Arizona State):
Due to injuries and overall ineffective play from the UCLA running back corps, Jack has been playing both running back and line backer for the Bruins over the past two games. He exploded for four rushing touchdowns last week against Washington and appears to be the best RB the Bruins have on the roster. The match up against a touch Arizona State defense is not the best, but his nose for the end zone is hard to ignore. The Bruins could turn to Jack often this week in this PAC 12 showdown. Another trip or two to the end zone could be in store for Jack in Week 13.
RB Essray Taliaferro, Marshall (vs. Florida International):
Taliaferro has scored six rushing touchdowns over the past four games and has also topped 100 yards rushing in three of those games. He could do some damage against the 99th ranked Florida International rush defense in Week Thirteen. The Thundering Herd could get up big in this contest and use Taliaferro to churn out the yards and keep the clock moving. Expect Taliaferro to be an excellent #2 running back option in most league formats this week.
RB Joey Iosefa, Hawaii (vs. Wyoming):
After missing five games in a row, Iosefa has averaged a remarkable 36 carries and 170 rushing yards per game over the past two weeks. He is a huge back that has better speed and feet than most would think. Iosefa could put up big time numbers this week against a weak Wyoming rush defense that ranks 115th in the country. Look for Hawaii to continue to feed this kid the rock this week. Iosefa could easily clear the 150-yard mark and add a score or two against the Cowboys.
RB James Sims, Kansas (vs. Iowa State):
Sims exploded for a career high 211 rushing yards and three scores against West Virginia in Week 12. He has not performed up to expectations this year, but appears to be hitting his stride at the perfect time for fantasy owners. Sims could find plenty of big holes to run through against a porous Iowa State rush defense that has allowed a whopping 31 rushing touchdowns this season. This Jayhawk has a high ceiling this week and could be a huge play for owners needing help in the fantasy playoffs.
RB Michael Gordon, Arkansas State (vs. Georgia State):
Gordon has been a scoring machine over the past two games, accounting for seven total scores during that span. He could have a field day this week against a Georgia State defense that will likely have no answer for Gordon and the Arkansas State offense. Look for Gordon to pound Georgia State into submission and likely find his way into the end zone on multiple occasions. Gordon could be a low end #1 running back in many fantasy leagues this week.
WIDE RECEIVERS
WR Damore’ea Stringfellow, Washington (vs. Oregon State):
This stud freshman had his coming out party last week with 147 yards and a score against UCLA. He looked like a man amongst boys and could see plenty of passes come his way against Oregon State in Week Thirteen. Stringfellow could easily top 100 yards receiving and find his way into the end zone this week in what could be an extremely high scoring affair. Look for Stringfellow to be a nice option for owners in BCS only leagues this week.
WR Colin Lockett, San Diego State (vs. Boise State):
Lockett is averaging 98 yards receiving and a score over the past two weeks and could help owners in a big way this week. The Boise State pass defense has struggled this year and could be susceptible to giving up a couple of big passing plays to Lockett this week. Look for Lockett to find pay dirt for a third straight game in Week 13. Lockett could be a solid #3 wide out in most league formats this week.
SNEAKY D'S

USC vs. Colorado
Clemson vs. Citadel
Bowling Green vs. Eastern Michigan
