NFL 2017 Position Rankings by Team & Division.
Over the past few years my staff produced the NFL magazine, and they really did a fine job. This year I have started working for ESPN full time and many of my duties and priorities have changed. The last 3 years I have left the majority of NFL preparation to my staff. I watch the NFL games on Sunday but did not have a lot to do with the NFL power ratings or even following the NFL rosters closely. I judged the teams based on what I watched on Sunday's. This year ESPN is having me do a write-up on EVERY NFL game that is being played this year!
If you read the College Football magazine you know that I update nine sets of power ratings during the spring and each week during the college football season. This includes weekly updates of every position on every team. This year I will be doing the same for the NFL. I am currently going thru each position and setting up five sets of power ratings for the NFL and ranking each position. If I am going to write about each NFL game during the season for ESPN, I had better know each team just as well as I know my 130 college teams.
My NFL guys have already ranked each position and it is a quality list. I have attached the Phil Steele Publication numbers for each position. So far in my preparation for the NFL season I have gotten thru the coaches, QB's, RB's and I am halfway thru the Receivers. I have to admit I look at these numbers closely when making my final power ranking on each team. I should be 100% up to speed on the NFL by the end of August and will have my five sets of power ratings ready for the season.
Here is the 2017 NFL Position Rankings. We have the rankings by team and by Division.
