Strength of Wins/ Pain of Losses Thru Week 9.
Strength of Wins
I find this chart to be very interesting every year. How it’s devised is if you beat an FBS opponent you get credit for all their wins over their FBS opponents. Week 8 Blog post on October 29th can be found <here> to see the change in records.
In this first chart below you can see Strength of Wins. Here you can see Michigan St now holds the lone #1 spot on this list. Michigan St has faced W Michigan, Oregon, Air Force, C Michigan, Purdue, Rutgers, Michigan and Indiana and those teams have a total of 35 wins keeping them at the top of this list. You can also see the quality of opponent LSU has played with 1 less win then Ohio St and Michigan St but still has 31 combined foe wins. At the bottom you will see your winless teams UCF, and Kansas. While there are only 2 winless teams, my chart grades 3 teams as having credit with a win but their foes have not won a single game vs a FBS foe.

Pain of Losses
This next chart we will go over is the Pain of Losses. Here if you lose to an opponent you get credit for all their losses. While there are 11 teams unbeaten, there are an additional 3 teams who have only lost to an unbeaten foe. Wyoming still hanging around at the top of this list with a combined 34 foe losses. Their foe losses include Utah St, Boise St, Nevada, Air Force, Appalachian St, New Mexico, Washington St, E Michigan and North Dakota. Unlike the Strength of Wins chart, the Pain of Losses chart does include a loss to an FCS foe. I count that loss a 4 towards the combined foe loss record due to the weakness of the opponent.

Overall Wins and Losses
In this last chart below you can see the overall wins and losses. As you can see the top teams are Ohio St, Michigan St and LSU. The bottom teams are all the winless teams. One of the most interesting teams here is Notre Dame (highlighted in green). If you take a closer look, Notre Dame has a 7-1 record, but have 0 losses in this list because their only loss came to a unbeaten Clemson team. So Notre Dame does not get credit for any losses.
