Strength of Wins/ Pain of Losses Thru Week 8.
Strength of Wins
I find this chart to be very interesting every year. How it’s devised is if you beat an FBS opponent you get credit for all their wins over their FBS opponents. Week 7 Blog post on October 22nd can be found <here> to see the change in records.
In this first chart below you can see Strength of Wins. Here you can see Ohio St, Michigan St, and LSU at the top ranked number 1. Lets look at LSU on the Strength of Wins list. LSU faced Miss St, Auburn, Syracuse, E Michigan, S Carolina, Florida and WKU and those teams have a total of 29 wins putting them at the top of this list. You can also see the quality if opponent LSU has seen with 1 less win then Ohio St and Michigan St but still has 29 combined foe wins. At the bottom you will see your winless teams UCF, North Texas, New Mexico St and Kansas. While there are only 4 winless teams, my chart grades 7 teams as having credit with a win but their foes have not won a single game vs a FBS foe.

Pain of Losses
This next chart we will go over is the Pain of Losses. Here if you lose to an opponent you get credit for all their losses. While there are 12 teams unbeaten, there are an additional 5 teams who have only lost to an unbeaten foe. Of those 5, 1 teams has 2 losses to unbeaten foes. Wyoming still hanging around at the top of this list with a combined 28 foe losses with New Mexico St. Their foe losses include Boise St, Nevada, Air Force, Appalachian St, New Mexico, Washington St, E Michigan and North Dakota. Unlike the Strength of Wins chart, the Pain of Losses chart does include a loss to an FCS foe. I count that loss a 4 towards the combined foe loss record due to the weakness of the opponent.

Overall Wins and Losses
In this last chart below you can see the overall wins and losses. As you can see the top teams are Ohio St, Michigan St and LSU. The bottom teams are all the winless teams. One of the most interesting teams here is Appalachian St (highlighted in green). If you take a closer look, Appalachian St is the only team that has a win vs a winless team, a win vs a 1 win team, and their only loss was vs Clemson one of the unbeaten teams. So they will have a 1-0 record.
